Ziggy Stardust - Thank You Very Much, Bye Bye, We Love You

Remembering David Bowie - re-posting the following from January 2016

A sad day, hearing the news of the passing of David Bowie, an otherworldly genius whose magic was that he was so relatable, so down to earth, yet so not of the earth.
It makes sense that David Bowie’s most famous alter-ego, Ziggy Stardust, was a futuristic alien on a humanitarian mission to earth.
It was January 29th 1972 when Bowie and his band took to the stage in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire for a warm up gig for the ’72-’73 Ziggy Stardust Tour. The chart for that concert* has transiting Sun exactly conjunct Bowie’s Ascendant at 9 Aquarius, symbolising recognition, praise, and the ego projecting brightly out into the world through innovative, unconventional Aquarius.

Although Bowie had not yet fully embraced the bisexual alien rock superstar with a message of hope for a dying human race - all the elements were in place. The spiky red hair, the futuristic, androgynous costumes and the ambiguious sexuality**

A Starman was born.

Most of the songs on the Ziggy Stardust album were recorded when Bowie had transiting Neptune Conjunct his natal Venus, a transit for beauty, fantasy, creativity and illusion and by the time of the tour, when the songs were made public, Neptune had moved to his MC. These transits reflect the album’s themes of salvation, soul love and the struggle to hold onto the dream.

However, when Neptune had finished with his MC, it was time for the illusion to end. Bowie’s natal Moon-Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Leo which straddles his Descendent, foreshadows Ziggy’s very public demise and indeed, by the time Bowie killed Ziggy off on stage in July ’73, shocking fans and bandmates alike, transiting Jupiter had crossed his ASC and was making a series of Oppositions to his natal Moon and Saturn, suggesting that keeping up the public persona of Ziggy had become frustrating, hard work and emotionally draining and explaining his need to get out of the rut and expand his horizons.

Transiting Uranus’ Squares to natal Mars and Sun were over by Autumn ‘72, but they certainly suggest that his desire to kill off his alter ego was not the spur of the moment decision it appeared to be. Transiting Jupiter had crossed his ASC in March that year and by July was making a series of Oppositions to Bowie’s natal Moon-Saturn Conjunction, suggesting that keeping up the public persona of Ziggy had become frustrating, hard work and emotionally demanding hard work and Bowie felt the need to get out of the rut and expand his horizons.
"Thank You Very Much, Bye Bye, We Love You"

But the end of Ziggy was just the end of the start for Bowie and after many years, many albums and many personas later, Bowie has earned his status as a true legend. And now the Starman’s time on earth has come to an end, we can look up to the firmament and smile through our tears, for he has gone home.

“News guy wept and told us
earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet
then I knew he was not lying”

So, transiting Saturn/Uranus/Neptune/Pluto has finished its Conjunction/Square/Opposition to your Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus/Mars/Jupiter/Saturn/Angle [Delete as appropriate!]

You breathe a big sigh of relief. It’s over. Finally.

If you track your transits, you were anticipating it long before it came and as it inched ever closer to its target, you watched carefully for signs of its influence. Perhaps the transit reflected major life changes, challenges, losses or new opportunities? Maybe years of hard work started to pay off or conversely, you had to face the consequences of unwise decisions made in the past? Possibly, the shift was more internal as you chose to (or were forced to) confront deep-rooted baggage, heal old wounds, grieve, move on, let go. Perhaps your resistance to the process, to the shifts in your physical, material and/or psychological circumstances, caused you to suffer. Maybe you were aware of your resistance, maybe you weren’t.

But now what?

If, under your transit, you experienced any kind of loss, setback, shock or major change, the chances are, now it’s over, you’ll be seeking to replace those losses, reverse the changes, return things to how they were. It’s human nature. We are creatures of habit - most of us take comfort in even the things we know aren’t good for us, because that’s the way it’s always been, the way we’ve been programmed. It’s simply easier to carry on as before than it is to change.

Here’s a familiar scenario.

A relationship breaks up under a Uranus transit. Now the transit is over and after a while you feel ready for romance again. You’re attracted to your new partner because he’s just your type. Consciously or unconsciously, something about him reminds you of your old flame. Your new partner pays you constant attention, says you belong together, whispers those three little words in your ear and proudly shows you off to his friends. It’s all so flattering and is just how your former relationship started. The nice part, before the possessiveness and jealousy kicked in. Your new beau doesn’t approve of your friends and you start to see less of them (he’s taking up all your time, anyway). You attend a party and have a brilliant evening chatting and dancing, but you barely speak to him all night and he makes his feelings clear about that later.

If you’re not in denial, not telling yourself that this time it’s going to be different, you realise that your old unhealthy relationship pattern is starting to recur. After all, you know it’s written in your birth chart, in that difficult aspect, so what can you do?

But maybe this time something tells you (maybe your inner self or maybe your friends, or both) that this is a good opportunity to put the lessons of that completed Uranus transit to good use, to allow your life choices to reflect the higher promise of your birth chart rather than the lower expression.

You consider your options.

Do you (1) run a mile, but feel miserable alone and then either repeat the pattern down the line with someone else, or stay lonely; (2) leave the relationship, but work on your own issues, through therapy, self help, through your chosen spiritual practice, or simply by giving yourself proper time to reflect, heal and claim your independence, to learn that it’s OK to be single; (3) stay in the relationship, but confront the issues early on and do your best to set healthy boundaries that allow you to be yourself and to have a life independent of the partner, remaining prepared to move on if it doesn’t work; or (4) stay in the relationship, do nothing and hope for the best?

There’s no right or wrong answer, this is not a quiz, nor is it an advice column. Options (1) and (4) seem least likely to lead to growth and learning, however. But then, none of the options are without risk and all of them, except (4) involve change, but at least options (2) and (3) carry forward the lessons of the Uranus transit that occurred during the breakup of the last relationship.

But remember, it’s not as easy as it sounds on paper. If this is a client’s situation, while it’s our job is to make them aware of the processes their transits represent and to help them to better understand the meaning of those processes, it is not our job to tell them what to do.

It’s also worth remembering that often, for those going through the scenario described above, the idea of being alone may be more terrifying than staying in an awful relationship. While for us astrologers Uranus transits are often welcomed as exciting and invigorating, for our clients they can signify scary, confusing times and after the initial transit they may be dealing with the fallout of what was set in motion for some time to come.

Here’s another scenario:

You lost your job under a Saturn transit. Saturn’s moved on and so must you.

You didn’t like the job much and would love to do something completely different or perhaps work for yourself, but you also have to think about the practical and financial issues. Can you afford the time and money required before a new business starts to pay for itself? And can you run the risk of it failing? Or are you prepared to abandon years of hard work, a good salary and status to start at the bottom in a totally different career?

Saturn transits might be about getting us back on track, but unfortunately they don’t let us off the hook when it comes to the material necessities of life. Saturn teaches that our dreams need to be tempered by reality, need to be ‘grown up’ (a Saturn transit at any age is about growing in maturity).

Here are three possibilities in keeping with carrying forward Saturn’s lessons:

Conscious that you might be missing an opportunity to fulfil a dream, you do the sensible thing and look for a role similar to your last one because you have responsibilities. The dream might be on hold (you hope not forever) but using the ‘be realistic and patient’ lesson of your Saturn transit, you realise that there are things you can do to make things better reflect your needs in your next job.

For example, you think carefully about what you liked and disliked in previous roles; you target companies which better reflect your personal values; in interviews, you don’t just ask about what the job itself entails, you ask also about the company culture, the personalities of the team you’d be working with, enquire about the future direction of the company, about opportunities to develop new skills. On your resume, you emphasise the skills that you most like to use, making less of those you don’t.

Or perhaps you use your years of experience in a different way, by seeking part time or contract work. It might lack the security of a permanent role, but it provides an income and buys you more time to consider your future, to start laying down the foundations for the business you want to start or for the new career you want to pursue.

Maybe you’re one of the lucky ones, able to follow your dream all out. However, if you remember the lessons of the Saturn transit, you will plan it out carefully, give yourself a timeline and a budget, learn any new skills you need (or hire an expert to do the things you can’t do) and so on.

However, it’s wise to reassess our dreams, goals and priorities after a Saturn transit. We age, we grow, the world changes around us, responsibilities fall onto our shoulders, spanners fall into the works.

Think about that dream of old. What does it boil down to? What’s its essence? Why did you want to be an artist/cosmonaut/vet/photographer/lawyer? Were you following an innate talent or a personal interest? Were you trying to please a parent or conform to a social stereotype of success? Was it because of the things you thought that career might bring - money, power, status, glamour? Or did it stem from a need to express yourself creatively, to help others, to give something back to the world?

If you look at it from this angle you can see more easily where you need to let go of old dreams and also when to hold onto dreams that are still valid, but need to be adapted so they better suit who and where you are now. You may even find that you have already made your dream come true, in essence at least, but didn’t realise it because it manifested differently to your fixed expectation.

Whichever path you take, you remain realistic, patient and focused and you don’t give up because you know you are laying down solid foundations for the future. You’ve absorbed the lesson of your Saturn transit.

But please don’t ignore the feelings of depression and self-doubt that can often accompany a job loss - even the loss of a hated job - which can linger long after the transit the loss occurred under has passed. And of course, as professional astrologers, this also applies to our clients.

In Part 2 we will look at how we, or our clients, might be feeling after a long Neptune transit.

With love,
Mandi

Jupiter in Scorpio: everything looks big under a microscope

Jupiter goes into Scorpio today…here’s a short video introducing some of the major themes:

Also, check out Rod Chang's excellent new article on Jupiter in Scorpio, discussing the economic, cultural, political and social impact of this ingress against the background of the other current significant transits:

Jupiter will soon move into Scorpio on 10th October. This undoubtedly will unfold a year of Jupiter-in-Scorpio experience, in which our society, culture and politics will focus on Scorpion issues including crisis, fear, darkness, withering, death, transformation, reintegration of resources, reallocation of power, reorganization of affairs, and issues of safety, control and protection, etc. When considering what might come up in this upcoming year, we should never overlook those other planetary placements that happen within the same time-frame. From October 2017 onward, there will be various powerful planetary ingresses and patterns besides this Jupiter ingress – Saturn will enter Capricorn on 20th December 2017, Chiron will move into Aries on 17 April 2018, and more importantly the ingress of Uranus into Taurus on 15th May 2018. All these ingresses symbolise significant changes on economic, cultural, political and social development.

Before the discussion of Jupiter ingress into Scorpio, we must make sure that we understand one thing – the ingress of a single planet or a single aspect often only gives us part of the whole picture. We should take into consideration the placements and aspects of other planetary transits in order to have a clearer vision of the global situation before us. At the moment, we need to pay attention to these following transit aspects: Jupiter-Uranus opposition, Uranus-Neptune semisquare, and Saturn-Chiron square Carry on reading>

Weinstein and the Anaretic Degree

$
0
0
The film industry was rocked by allegations in the New York Times on 5th October 20171 that producer and studio executive Harvey Weinstein had been sexually harassing young women, mostly actresses, for decades. Following the first wave of accusations, on October 8th, he was fired from his own business, The Weinstein Company. He was also subsequently suspended from the British Academy and the American Academy, the organisations responsible for the BAFTA and Oscars awards.

Born with the Sun at 29 degrees Pisces and the North Node at 29 degrees Aquarius / South Node at 29 Leo, he is sensitive to the 29th, anaretic degree. When a planet, natally or by transit, is at that critical degree it’s said to be emphasised, powerful. According to the Café Astrology website2, with a natal planet at 29 degrees, “there can be some real issues with decision-making in that part of the personality represented by the energies of the planet”. It goes on to say that, “it’s also associated with a sense of urgency…it can be a point of poor choices, difficulties, crisis or overcompensation.” So, for Weinstein, with the Sun and Nodes in the anaretic degree, it’s about poor decisions, crisis and overcompensation related to his life mission, purpose and direction. It also perhaps represents the playing out of some intense karma (Nodes) - the release of the need to be ‘king’ of his creative domain (Leo), to be brought back down to the level of the common people (Aquarius).

By transit, planets at the aneretic degree can bring crisis and on October 8th, when the scandal began to gain traction, transiting Jupiter at 29 degrees Libra triggered his Sun via a partile Quincunx and his Nodes via a partile Trine to the North Node and sextile to the South Node. Transiting Jupiter was also applying to a Trine with his natal Venus at 3 degrees Pisces (Venus in Pisces a fitting symbol for the actresses he’s said to have abused). Appearing before reporters a few days later, Weinstein told them, “we all make mistakes,” (reflecting the issue of poor decision-making associated with the anaretic degree) telling the press that he’d been good to them and asking for a second chance (un-evolved Pisces is prone to inappropriately playing the victim).

The Quincunx is interesting. It’s an awkward aspect between two signs which don’t see eye to eye and often plays out in the context of relationships. Adjustment is required. In this case, the justice and fairness urgently demanded by transiting Jupiter in the last degree of Libra, awkwardly meets his Sun in the last degree of Pisces. The Sun at the very end of the zodiac could mean that poor life choices are made out of a fundamental difference in how he perceives reality, himself and his life purpose, compared to reality as perceived by his multitudinous victims. The Quincunx from transiting Jupiter to his Sun highlights the irreconcilability of these different points of view - he continues to assert that the sexual acts between him and his accusers were consensual. That his Sun is un-aspected (although there may be a Square to the Moon), lends it even more emphasises – he dances to the beat of his own drummer, led by his ego need, perhaps even unaware that his actions were causing so much emotional damage. But he knew he had the power to make or break a young woman’s career and he used it. Natal Mars in Scorpio tightly Squared to Pluto in Leo is a powerful symbol for using sexual predation to satisfy the urge to wield power and control.

Weinstein’s wife, fashion designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him on October 10th, the day Jupiter ingressed into Scorpio3.

On the 11th October, he was more contrite, saying in a statement to celebrity gossip website Page Six, “I apologise to everyone I have hurt by my actions…I realise I need to work on myself and to change. I am in intense therapy and counselling.” Weinstein is now the subject of a number of police investigations in the US and beyond.

We don’t have a birth time for Weinstein, but transiting Pluto in Capricorn is currently Squaring his natal Mercury-Jupiter Conjunction in Aries.  During Pluto’s transit through Capricorn, the historical crimes and transgressions of powerful people and institutions have surfaced and often these have been ‘open secrets’ or rumours that have circulated for years. Egregious behaviours and actions were tolerated or ignored because the victims felt they had no power, or actually had no power. Under Pluto in Capricorn, however, when a shift change occurred in the collective, these transgressions were finally acknowledged, with the sordid details rising to the surface for all to see and judge, precipitating a crisis.

Collective shift changes are of course reflected in Pluto’s long, slow transits through each sign. In Capricorn it’s been about revelations that endemic within the culture of major institutions there exists a rotten boil that needs to be lanced, with not undeserving scapegoats (Capricorn) as the central focus. First it was banking culture (the early scapegoat being Fred ‘The Shred’ Goodwin, CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group). Next, Plutonian crisis rocked the institution of television, in particular the BBC crisis around the exposure of Jimmy Savile’s prolific child abuse. And now, with these allegations against Harvey Weinstein, it seems that the glamour has fallen away from the movie world, with many saying his actions are just the tip of the iceberg and such behaviour is widespread in the film industry.

There is an Interesting astrological correlation between the timing of the full exposes of Harvey Weinstein and Jimmy Savile's abuses of power through sexual assaults on a huge scale (alleged in the case of Weinstein). The 'open secret' about Savile was finally acknowledged publicly when Saturn was just about to go into Scorpio and with Weinstein it was when Jupiter was just about to go into Scorpio. A few differences - there's been no suggestion that Weinstein abused children and also, unlike Savile, Weinstein is still alive to answer for his crimes. Proving that Jupiter isn't always the planet where you 'get away with it.'

British actress Emma Thompson, when interviewed on the BBC’s Newsnight4 show made the connection, asking, “isn’t it the same story as Jimmy Savile?”

Referring to news stories that Weinstein was checking himself into rehab for sex addiction (addiction can be a negative expression of Pisces, a way for this sensitive sign to avoid painful realities), Thompson went on to say,

“I don’t think you can describe [Weinstein] as a sex addict.  He’s a predator – that’s different. He’s at the top of, as it were, the ladder, of a system of harassment and belittlement and bullying."

Thompson has outspoken Mercury in Aries Sextile Venus and Square Mars and Saturn (speaking up for/fighting for women against male authority figures). She also has Venus in Gemini (again, speaking up for women) Opposite Jupiter, with both Squaring Pluto to form a T-Square, she concluded, "I didn't know about these things, but they don't surprise me at all, and they're endemic to the system anyway…this isn't about one man's crimes against women. This is about our system's imbalances, our system's gender crisis.”

Under Jupiter in Scorpio there is the potential for this scandal to spread far and wide and of course, Scorpio in its worst expression can be about abuses of power of a sexual nature. Indeed, the #metoo campaign on social media has seen women (and men) in extraordinary numbers, from all walks of life, share, for the first time, their own stories of sexual harassment and abuse.

Gary Oldman - From Sid Vicious to Winston Churchill via Count Dracula

$
0
0

This is Gary Oldman’s time, receiving universal praise for his role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour and picking up Best Actor awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs, to name just a few.

Darkest Hour tells how World War II British Prime Minister Churchill changed history by making the decision, with the odds stacked against him, to fight on against the threat of invasion from the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces, refusing to negotiate for peace with Hitler, despite pressure from his parliament and the War Cabinet.

The story picks up key themes in Oldman’s chart. Sun, Moon and Mercury Conjunct in the martial, warrior sign of Aries in his 10th House, reflects his character’s decision to fight, not negotiate, reflected in Churchill’s famous, we shall fight on the beaches speech. We also see Oldman’s Sun in Aries in the 10th House in the movie’s tagline A man with the heart of a nation. And all those Aries planets are disposited by Mars in Aquarius, a placement of stubbornly acting upon one’s own convictions, acting independently but for the good of the whole.

Darkest Hour also uses the taglines Never give up. Never give in. and Never, never, never surrender.
These also reflect Oldman’s Aries warrior spirit, but also his Fixed T Square, that most unyielding of aspect patterns. The T Square is comprised of Uranus in Leo in the 2nd House Opposite Mars in Aquarius in the 8th House with an apex of Neptune and North Node in Scorpio in the 5th House.

Jupiter, also in the 5th, joins this stubborn Fixed T Square and at the very last degree of Libra, 29 degrees and 56 minutes no less, is an apt reflection of Churchill’s refusal to negotiate with the Nazis. Jupiter, Neptune and North Node in the 5th House at the apex, speak of his career choice as an actor, with Neptune representing the glamorous illusion of the movies. The North Node brings perhaps a sense of destiny around his choice. Jupiter offers faith and opportunity and in the critical 29th degree adds a ‘do or die’ quality. Uranus in the 2nd in Leo is about valuing being at the centre of things, but on one’s own terms, in one’s own way. It is also more generally about earning money unconventionally or erratically and opposite Mars in Aquarius in the 8th suggests tension around the sharing of money and resources within partnerships. It stands to reason that his four divorces would bring financial stress, even, or especially, in the big money world of Hollywood.

Venus and Mars are both in Aquarius in the 8th, but too wide to be in a Conjunction. Venus is Conjunct Chiron. Is there some clue here, as to why Oldman has been married five times? Oldman is known to be intensely protective of his private life, as you might expect with a personal planet in the 8th House, eschewing celebrity and the circus that comes with it. However in the buzz around awards season, his personal life was laid open by his third wife who claimed in a newspaper article that he ‘ruined’ her life and ‘stole’ her children. Neptune in the 5th, Square Mars and Uranus is also evoked here.

The Jupiter, Neptune, North Node Conjunction has also manifested in alcoholism with a spell in rehab and a drink driving charge in 1991, when transiting Neptune Squared his Moon and Mercury.

His Sun is in an out of sign Square with Saturn in Sagittarius and both Sun and Saturn are connected to Pluto by Quincunx and Trine respectively. Furthermore, his Mercury in Aries is in a Sesquiquadrate aspect with Pluto.  Pluto is also in a Sextile to Jupiter, linking it to his T-Square. This can be dark stuff and reflects many of the characters he has played and/or the themes of many of the films he has starred in.  This configuration also symbolises how he is said to reinvent himself for every role. Here are a few examples:

Darkest Hour, 2018, playing the lead character Winston Churchill, who famously suffered from dark moods, which he labelled Black Dog. Oldman is unrecognisable as himself in his portrayal of Churchill.

Sid and Nancy, 1986, in which he portrayed real life punk rocker Sid Vicious’s relationship with Nancy
Spungen and his fatal drug overdose following her death.

The lead role in Prick Up Your Ears, 1987, which tells the true story of the extraordinary life and violent death of gay British playwright Joe Orton.

His roles in Sid and Nancy and Prick up your Ears depicted damaged young men whose lives were cut short, reflected by Solar Arc (SA) Mars Opposite natal Pluto during that time. They also won him great acclaim and opened the door to Hollywood. SA North Node and Neptune were also Trine his Sun and during this period he also had transiting Pluto opposite Moon.

In 1991, he played Lee Harvey Oswald in Oliver Stone’sJFK, a conspiracy theory movie which posited that there was more to the official story of Oswald’s assassination of John F. Kennedy.  Pluto was transiting Oldman’s Venus-Chiron Conjunction by Square, with transiting Uranus applying to Square his Moon and transiting Neptune midway through Squaring his Moon-Mercury.

It’s interesting to note here that in all of the above he played real historical figures which is perhaps shown by the Trine from the Sun and Moon to Uranus, a configuration which suggests the need for authenticity.

In 1992, he played the ultimate dark character, Count Dracula, inBram Stoker’s Dracula, with SA Saturn Square Jupiter and SA Sun in Taurus Opposite his Neptune in Scorpio, activating his T-Square, allowing themes of vampiric control and desire to come through.

In 1994, he played corrupt DEA officer Norman Stansfield in Léon, the Professional. His character is often named as one of the best villains in cinema. This release had SA Saturn just past a Square with Oldman’s Jupiter.

In more recent years he played Sirius Black in the Harry Potter Movies (from 2004) and in 2005 played police commissioner James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, reprising the character in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. While neither of these characters were villains, they inhabited worlds full of evils, with Sirius Black in hiding, the victim of a wrongful conviction and James Gordon helping Batman overcome dark forces in Gotham City, In 2011, Oldman earned his first Oscar nomination for playing British spy George Smiley in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, with transiting Saturn Conjunct and transiting Neptune Trine his 5th House Jupiter and SA Uranus separating from a Opposition to his Sun.

As for his current transits, he has Solar Arc Pluto Conjunct Jupiter in the 5th House denoting a major milestone in his acting career. Solar Arc Mars has just passed over his Sun in Aries the 10th House, suggesting recognition, respect and attention for playing a strong male character.

And the Secondary Progressed Moon - that great timer - is currently Sextile his 10th House Mercury and has just Trined Venus and in September last year Sextiled his 10th House Moon, another indication of a peak in his career and reputation.

Planetary Shake-Up as Uranus moves into Taurus

It's always a big deal and a fundamental shift in energies when an outer planet changes signs.

Uranus, the planet of shake-ups, surprises, innovation, rebellion and freedom moves on May 15 into security conscious, materialistic Taurus after seven years in fearless, fast-acting Aries.

What Uranus in Aries set in motion, will be seen through and manifested by steadfast Uranus in Taurus, but not without some unexpected twists and turns along the way.  One thing we can be certain of is that by the time Uranus leaves Taurus in 2026, the world won't quite be the same.

Here are three videos from the Academy of Astrology team, exploring the main themes - and making a few predictions - for these interesting years ahead.

Mars Retrograde in Aquarius - the humbling of heroes

Earlier today, I wrote on Facebook and Instagram:

"With Mars, the planet of sport and competition, retrograde in Aquarius, the sign of teams, the World Cup tournament could get very interesting. Think reversals of fortune, injuries, red cards, conflicts between and within teams and with Uranus Square Mars, perhaps shocking losses and surprise wins."

Hopefully teams and fans alike will take the high road and celebrate the passion and brotherhood of football, the beautiful game?

And seven hours later we've just witnessed the shock exit of reigning champions Germany. As the commentator said "they were heroes and now they're just men."

This is a huge turnabout as Mars goes retrograde in Aquarius today - sporting heroes have become as common men - reflecting that Aquarius is about the common man - the humbling of the heroes made by Aquarius opposite sign Leo

But how can us already common folk us Mars is Retrograde in Aquarius / Capricorn?

A few ideas...
  • Re-group, relax, refresh
  • Tie up loose ends
  • Exercise patience
  • Consider, where are you wasting your energy? How can you be more efficient?
  • Contemplate where in your life you are competing with others and reconsider what are you trying to achieve?
  • Analyse your desires
  • Cooperation over combativeness
  • Remember you don’t have to be superman / superwoman, you don’t need to do everything yourself…
  • …Nor should you Lord it over others and expect them to do everything for you (you might especially be reminded of this when Mercury is Retrograde in Leo 27th July to 20th August)
  • Asking for help if you need it and/or helping others
  • Learn to be a team member
  • Roll with the punches
  • Take actions that benefit the team / the wider group / society as a whole
  • Are you fighting for a good cause or just for the sake of the fight?
  • The warrior in retreat, waiting patiently until the time is right
  • The humbling of heroes
  • Planning and strategizing is better than acting/reacting/initiating
  • Thinking about what angers and frustrates you and asking yourself why. Anger/irritability is often is a sign your boundaries have been crossed. Do you need to reassert some of your boundaries and/or do you need to let some resentments go? Remember, Saturn, planet of boundaries is the traditional ruler of Aquarius and the ruler of Capricorn, the sign Mars retrogrades back into before turning around
·     When Mars goes back into Capricorn, look back to mid-March through Mid-May when Mars was first in Capricorn for recurring themes in your life. Where do you need to restructure/reassert/restore/go easier on yourself and others?

How can Saturn help us live from the heart?

Are Saturn transits to the Sun in the natal chart destined to be depressing, to suck the joy out of your life?

My article, How can Saturn help us live from the Heart? discusses this concern. It was first published in Infinity Astrological Magazine and was recently re-published on the popular astro.com website.

Here's the introduction below and you can read the full article here

If you've ever taken an interest in self-help books or films, especially of the more spiritual variety, you'll have heard about the importance of following your heart, being true to your heart and living your truth.

There's no doubt that having a sense of purpose unique and authentic is crucial, but what does following/living from your heart really mean? Fortunately, astrology offers some clues.

The Sun in our birth chart represents our heart – the organ in our chest, but also in the emotional and psychological sense. Think about how we describe unsympathetic people as heartless or cold-hearted and supportive, generous people as warm-hearted or all-heart.

An understanding of the sign our Sun falls in, the House it tenants and its aspects with other planets and points, helps take us to the centre of ourselves, where our true heart lies. Our Sun complex describes our life direction and purpose and the hero we are meant to be.

When transiting Saturn contacts your Sun, it can feel heavy, restrictive, depressing even. Saturn's challenging transits – the Conjunction, Square and Opposition in particular – ask you to question whether the structure of your life supports your heart purpose, questions whether you are living in a heart-centred way… Read more here
